Monday Motivation: Blackbird

Most people who know me know I am, and always have been, a Beatles fan. I have always liked the song, Blackbird. I cannot tell you exactly why it speaks to me but it does.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Blackbird, like most Beatles tunes, is loaded with symbolism. Paul McCartney said in an interview the song is about oppression. When I listen to it I hear a story about potential. I hear a song about empowerment. I hear a song about packing up the gifts you have been given and pursuing the dreams that haunt your sleep.  The things you perceive to be holding you back are tethered to your own fears. Be afraid of nothing.

Monday's Motivation: Happiness

I had the best weekend! Even though it rained most of Saturday I did not let the weather stop me from going on many adventures! I learned a valuable lesson from Snoop. I can't wait to write about it in my upcoming race report!

Caturnalia: Confessions

I confess. I am the owner of a fat cat. Cali has had a lot of health problems. She tends to develop stones in her bladder. The stone are horrible. Each one looks like a small oyster bed with jagged sharp edges. Cali has had surgery for her stones 3 times now despite being on a diet designed specifically to prevent them. I almost lost her following her last surgery. There had been some neurological damage and it took her a long time to recover. She wasn't even able to pick up her head. She lost about 1/2 her body weight. Luckily she has recovered but she is on a new diet now. In fact everyone has to be on her diet because I cannot risk the chance of Cali developing more stones. Feel free to read in between the lines that I spend a lot of $$$ on high priced prescription cat food.  I am not sure she or I would survive another surgery. 3 out of 4 cats are doing fine. Cali, however, is fat.

Do you think this will work? I have my doubts.

"There seems to be a pattern of overweight cats… It makes sense though. Cats are very independent animals and if they don’t want to exercise, nobody is going to make them. That makes it extra important to make sure they get the right amount of exercise, as well as eat the right healthy foods. Holly weighed in at over 18 pounds, but needed to shed the extra weight. To do so, Holly began swimming for 30 minutes whenever she visited the nearby pet resort. There she slowly shed the weight and even became quite the swimmer!"

Monday's Motivation: Hold onto something

"To succeed…
You need to find something to hold on to,
something to motivate you,
and something to inspire you. ”

Caturnalia: GOT

If my cats were characters in Game of Thrones this is how they would break down:

Smudge as Catelyn Stark
Cali as Samwell Tarly

Coda as Jaime Lannister
Mimi as Khal Khalessi

Monday's Motivation: Every Morning Song

Even though I know there's hope in every morning song
you have to find that melody alone.
